Power Protection and Backup Products and Solutions by ASSI

"Power Protection and Backup" -- Power-system protection is a branch of electrical power engineering that deals with the protection of electrical power systems from faults through the isolation of faulted parts from the rest of the electrical network. The objective of a protection scheme is to keep the power system stable by isolating only the components that are under fault, whilst leaving as much of the network as possible still in operation. Thus, protection schemes must apply with very pragmatic and pessimistic approach to clearing system faults. The devices that are used to protect the power systems from faults are called protection devices. For the purposes of Computer Networks, protection devices are commonly Uninteruptable Power Supplies (UPS - Battery Backups), Surge Protection, Stand-alone Power Generators and Isolated Grounding Solutions.

We provide and consult on Power Protection and Backup Solutions because they are a requirement to effectively keep Computer Networks Stable and functionaing properly.  Power is a dirty and unreliable utility even though, we seldom see complete outages in todays technological environment.  But, low power (Brown Outs), High Power (Surges) and momentary interuptions are daily occurances and significantly affect Computer Networks.  Those, combined with the occasional complete outage create a substantial risk to business operations which is only mitigated by having the proper Power Protection Systems in place.

Computer Networks commincate using an Eithernet standard IEEE 802.3. This in its simplest form means the way the electrical signals and sent and interpreted for them to be able to talk.  But, as with all technology... there is a simple set of parameters which have to be in place and similar to all devices in order to function.  This is why remote buildings often have catastrophic results if direct connected by wire and are usually connected via fiber optic cables.  The problem that we have today is that not only computers and servers use this standard, but printers, wireless access points, routers, cable modems and many, many other devices all use the same communications infrastructure... but are located in very different locations within the buildings.  A difference in voltage, ground potential or interference or noise can all impede a network from doing its job.  That is why having a centralized power location with Power Over Ethernet (POE) is such a huge trend in todays sales.

What else is important? Support, National Support, International Support and having the right protection that even allows you to travel and have the lowest cost for the majority of travel that you do.  We help our clients choose, understand, implement, use and support the appropriate Power Protection Systems for their environment.
